Day off
This photo essay
is about my friend Sarah’s day off. I wanted to capture somebody’s daily life
moments. I see every single moment everyday, but I have never take photos of
daily life for someone. The point of this was to take photos of natural
gestures. I didn’t ask her to pose. Everything she did was natural.
Nice job, Tomoyo. This makes for an interesting series. A few thoughts for you:
ReplyDelete- if you want this to come across as a naturalistic documentary study then I think that photos 2,6 and 7 don't fit because she has a self-conscious eye contact with the camera.
- However if you think of it as more of an extended portrait, then including some of those is ok.
- Pay attention to her facial expressions and how they affect the mood of the photo.
- Photos 1 and 6 seem redundant because her pose is so similar.
- It's nice to have a variety of scale, as you do here.
- Try thinking about order, how you can construct a story of her day (and therefore life) through the order of the photos.
- You could also choose photos that have a repeated color and put those together.
- Photo 5 feels startling, out of place, partly because it needs color correction and a partly because of the shallow depth of field compared to the others. This doesn't mean you need to drop it, but should be very careful where in the order you put it.
Hope that helps.
