Photo Idea

By Jac glen (I'm not sure it's his real name or not.)

I always want to try to take a photo that has strong lighting contract. This has colors, but I want to try with black and white.

writing assignment

all my photos are documentary portraits except the second one. The second one, I had to ask Sarah to look in the opposite direction because of the reflection of the wine glass. Other than that, every photo is documentary. I think the 4th one is interesting because their facial expression is totally opposite. They were watching a video and Alice (top) found that it was funny and Sarah didn't.
I think they were very conformable while I was taking photos. I think it's because they know each other and also another person was helping them be comfortable.

I like this photo because of the composition, lighting technique and color. It focused on her hand, but still my eye goes right to her face. I think it is because of her hand's shadow. The color of this photo is interesting. Usually people do black and white, but it has an olive color, and it works very well with her facial expression somehow.

Most of my photos are street portraits, but I consider the second photo as a documentary photo because they were doing street performances, and I'm pretty sure they knew I was taking photos of them, and also this photo has a good relationship between the main subject and background. He is wearing range sports wear and other people are looking in the same direction.

It was so hard to take photos that people are actually looking at the camera, but miraculously the 4th photo I got one. It really depends on the situation and composition, whether eye contact makes a good photo or not. Mine is definitely helped by eye contact.

I took a lot of pictures in Washington D.C. When I was there, it actually was not that uncomfortable to take photos of strangers because I won't see them again, but my area is my living area, so I know some people on main street. That made me very uncomfortable.

Midterm

Day off

This photo essay is about my friend Sarah’s day off. I wanted to capture somebody’s daily life moments. I see every single moment everyday, but I have never take photos of daily life for someone. The point of this was to take photos of natural gestures. I didn’t ask her to pose. Everything she did was natural.

I like this photo because i has one light source, but that light reflect off the floor, so this got interesting light shape.

This photo has the most simple light technic we can imagine. Light is coming from left bottom, and that is it, but light is perfect for distance, angle, and brightness, so the strawberry texture comes out clear.

Writing Assignment

I think the interesting composition in my photos is that object itself already has shape (round shape), and these objects make shape by themselves like a line, triangle, and square. Also, the main object's round line and other subject (background)'s straight line make good contrast. I believe all my photos have good depth or layers.
